Food, food, food. It plays such a central role in our daily life. From the moment we wake up to when we go to sleep, it’s surprising how much we consciously or subconsciously think about it.

Whether it is for pure hedonic enjoyment, weight loss, energy boost, or antiaging, it has a tremendous impact on the quality of our lives.

Yet at the same time, with so much information out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Finding what works best for you based on your goals is a wonderful journey to embark on that takes practice and effort.

When it comes to food concerning our health & wellbeing, one topic that caught our attention here at 3SSENTIA in the last couple of years is fasting. For someone that loves food, this seemed like a very odd concept but as I dug deeper to understand its history and purpose, I quickly discovered a fascinating world behind it.

While this ancient practice can be traced back to the 5th century to the “father of medicine” himself, Hippocrates, fasting has been adopted by many religions worldwide both as a form of discipline and spiritual practice.

Over the last few years, a variant of fasting known as intermittent fasting has become incredibly trendy as according to Google, it's the most sought-after content in the diet category.

Intermittent fasting, also known as intermittent energy restriction, is any of various meal timing schedules that cycle between voluntary fasting and non-fasting over a given period. Such methods make include the likes of alternate-day fasting, periodic fasting, and daily time-restricted feeding.

Needless to say, what we put in our body can have a massive impact on how we feel and perform on & off work: it's as important to know the cycles and timings of fasting to follow as much as to be aware of what you choose to eat.

It’s not something you can improvise, it requires education as it can have a tremendous impact on your health but also be dangerous if you have certain medical conditions. You can find most answers you may have about intermittent fasting here but some potential benefits include weight loss, Alzheimer's prevention, reduction of chronic diseases and even help you live longer.

So if you are convinced about giving intermittent fasting a try, how can you implement it in your day?

One app that can help you in this regard is Fastic. With its interactive functionality, expert knowledge, and vibrant community, this is a great place where you can explore this powerful lifestyle choice and discover for yourself the impact it can have on your health and productivity.

What’s move what makes Fastic worthy of notice and aligned to what we stand for here at the 3SSENTIA community is their engagement in initiatives that can have a social impact. Their recent collaboration with the initiative Move for Meals to provide meals for 5,500 schoolchildren is a clear example of that.

All in all, being aware of how to treat our body is a wonderful gift we can make ourselves as all great changes and accomplishments start from within.

As professionals, this becomes particularly important given that we often engage in a sedentary lifestyle. Taking care of yourself and generally of our bodies can be the difference between a day full of energy and purpose and one of tiredness and emptiness.

It’s about those small steps we take in our day, for example, simply recharging our body and mind between one task and another. How to do it in a fun & energising way that will give your brain a rest and lift your mood?

Embrace the power of breathing! It’s such a great way to reduce the so-called “brain fog” and increase vitality. One of the best work from home tips indeed!

Try our “Pranayama breathing”, a 2 min guided breathing practice inspired by ancient Yogi teachings that will help you focus, increase your energy and make you more balanced before your next important activity. We got you covered :)
